Nov 2014, Exploring Yunnan, 2nd of 5 (Shaxi)

Greetings all,
It's 4 November 2014 as I write this and we are still in Guanxi province with 1 more day of vacation here and the morning is 'relax' time...well since I know that life will be busy when we get back to Shenyang, I'm taking a little time to write about our experiences during this wonderful vacation in the South of China before I forget it!

As the title says, this is the 2nd of ? entries...not sure how many there will be as I have a hard time to choose which photos to share on our journey...and sometimes I get a little long winded! (not sure that's the right term for sharing too many photos, but you get the idea!)

So, when I last left off, we had spent the night in Xizhou.  We left from there in the next morning enroute to Lijiang, and on the way, we stopped to see some beautiful landscape and we traveled and climbed in Altitude.

Along the way we stopped in a small town of Shaxi, which was also a stop on the old Tea and Horse route.  This town is a Unesco site and we could really see why...it was old and authentic and we loved it!  Our guide told us that several years ago, the town wanted to tear down the old and build up new (very typical of China), but they didnt' have the money, so they had to keep the old...and we are so thankful they did...now I'm sure the town is too!

Our first stop in the town was the market  and then lunch.  As usual, we saw some unusual things...!  It's typical in this part of Yunnan in the restaurants, to go to the kitchen, pick out what you want and they cook it and bring it to your table.  It's all fresh and very very good!  Of all the food we had on this trip, eating in Shaxi and Lijiang was our favorite!

Dried Fava bean paste at the market.

Dried fava bean chips and some crunchy fried root...both really good!

Rod ran into a man who lives in Shaxi now, who is from Columbia, SC...imagine that! 1.3 billion people in China and Rod meets someone from where we used to live in SC!

Sarah in a road-side market outside of Shaxi..this place is known for it's peppers...lots of them for sale along the roads!

So, that about does it for this portion of our trip...next stop Lijiang!

Blessings to all from Rod and Sarah, exploring the Yunnan provice in China.
